Sudan communists put Darfur forefront

The Sudanese Communist Party has spotlighted the decade of crisis in Darfur in its latest political statement, saying the region has been left with nothing but ‘wildfire remains’. The statement was made during the 48th anniversary of the October Revolution. The party described Darfur as a lawless region since the signing of the Doha peace agreement and noted that the region still finds itself in a state of emergency. It also argued that security arrangements have not been put in place and the ‘demands of the people of Darfur’ have not been met. The party stressed that the constitution cannot be drafted under the watch of the current regime in Sudan and it cannot be confined to a one-party state. According to the party, the Sudanese constitution should be drafted towards the end of the national government’s transitional period. This period, the statement pointed out, will be after ‘totalitarianism has been dismantled’ and when the policies of war in Darfur will be put to an end. Lastly, the party announced it wants to open dialogue and negotiations with the SPLM-N to end the war in Blue Nile and in South Kordofan.
