Sudan ‘closes borders’ with Libya, wants rebel chief expelled
The government said it would close its borders with Libya as of tomorrow, Thursday, to protect travelers and traders from exposure to the attacks of movements — a reference to the Justice and Equality Movement, whose leader Dr. Khalil Ibrahim is sheltering in Libya. The move came a day after Sudan had called on Libya to expel the JEM leader, accusing him of making statements that undermine the peace efforts in Darfur and of threatening attacks on Khartoum. For its part, Libya announced that it fully understands the decision taken by the Sudanese government to close land borders between the two countries and for reasons known to all, particularly since the problems of Darfur continue.
