The Sudanese Army, led by Colonel Ammar, and pro-government militias raided the Garwid Barsham-market on Sunday. Witnesses told Radio Dabanga that they entered the market in the Dar El Salaam area in North Darfur with seven (7) Land Cruisers and started looting the place. Stall owners and citizens doing their daily shopping were assaulted and had their money and cell phones stolen. Radio Dabanga reports that the Sudanese Army accused the citizens of supporting the rebel movement in the region by selling them food and threatened with severe repercussions if they did not stop this immediately. A witness told Radio Dabanga that those present replied “we are unarmed citizens, how can do you expect us to stop a rebel movement? We do not have the capacity or manpower.”
