Sudan Air Force bombs village, nomads in Blue Nile: rebels
Armed rebel group reports “many casualties” among the residents of a targeted village in Blue Nile. The bombardment allegedly followed a battle on the ground over Wed Abuk.
The Sudanese Air Force dropped a number of bombs on Wed Abuk, Blue Nile state, on Friday. According to an armed rebel group, there were many casualties among the residents. “The aerial bombardment came after their forces were defeated in Kilgo and chased into Wed Abuk.”
The spokesman for the Sudan People's Liberation Army-North (SPLM-N) reported in a press statement that two Antonovs of the air force, and four helicopters, dropped twenty bombs on Wed Abuk. Besides a number of civilians, animals were also killed in the explosions.
The bombardment led to fear among the villagers and nomads around the town, Arnu Ngutulu Lodi said.
“It was a counter-attack on our positions, at two fronts,” Lodi said. He claimed that the SPLA-N forces managed to capture Wed Abuk for a few hours before they withdrew, “with the captured military equipment”.
The spokesman took the opportunity to express his condolences to the families of the killed villagers and nomads. He strongly condemns the aerial bombardment by the Sudanese regime against innocent civilians, also in Darfur and the Nuba Mountains, in an attempt to fight back the armed rebels.
