Students reach agreement with UNAMID
Students of Nyala University in North Darfur have reached an agreement with the UNAMID mission to be moved by air from Nyala to El-Fasher. A student representative told Radio Dabanga that this outcome is the result of their efforts in negotiating with UNAMID on their situation. The situation was that students were stuck in Nyala for more than one week due to the fact that the road between Nyala and El-Fasher is closed. The university is already closed and will remain closed until after Eid-al-Fitr, due to safety measures. The state government as well as the General Sudanese Student Union praised the important role of the Governor of South Darfur in recommending UNAMID as well as following-up on the situation until the problem was solved. In addition to this, students also praised the position of the General Sudanese Student Union for their contribution in reaching the agreement with UNAMID. The agreement included to allocate UNAMID flights to airlift approximately 500 students from Nyala to al-Fasher within the next coming days, although an exact time has not been specified.
