Students arrested at Ahlia University

Security authorities arrested dozens of students at Ahlia University in Omdurman following clashes between students affiliated with the ruling National Congress Party, and Darfuri students. A student told Radio Dabanga NCP affiliated students attacked students at the office for the Darfur Association of Students with batons and sticks injuring two. The Association was trying to raise issues such as the facilities provided by universities to Darfuri students and administrative matters such as tuition fees. The NCP students refused to include these issues in the debate leading to the clashes. The police intervened firing tear gas to disperse the students. A witness said 26 students were arrested and taken into detention at different locations around Omdurman.
