Argo camp school burned down in fire; classes being conducted outdoors
Over thousands of students in North Darfur’s Argo camp have been affected by the fire that engulfed the local elementary school last week. The fire destroyed four classrooms and the staff room in the school. Resultantly, students are now suffering from lack of infrastructure such as textbooks and seating. Classes are currently being held under the shade of trees or under tarpaulin sheets.
One of the local leaders told Radio Dabanga that the classes conducted under tarpaulin sheets cause great discomfort because of the heat they generate. “We have classes only until 10 in the morning. The ministry of education should provide support and emergency aid for the refugee students,” he said.
He also appealed to humanitarian organizations to provide services and scholarships for displaced students.
