Student’s shooting closes Nierteti market in Central Darfur

Shops at the Nierteti market in Central Darfur state closed their doors and customers ran for safety to their homes, after the shooting of a student from the Southern Nierteti camp for the displaced on Thursday morning. An eyewitness told Radio Dabanga that two militiamen on motorcycles at the bus station of Nierteti opened fire on Ghaly Daoud Salih, a student at El Geneina University and seriously injured him. They stole his bag. Salih was immediately transferred to Nierteti hospital for treatment. According to the witness, the bystanders managed to seize one of the perpetrators and retrieve the student’s bag. The other person managed to escape. The witness confirmed that the police and the army intervened and entered the market in anticipation of another attack, which led to the closing of the shops and the citizens fleeing to their homes.
