Strike lifted in South Darfur’s Nyala hospital
The medical staff of Nyala hospital in South Darfur lifted their strike on Tuesday. Dr Ibrahim El Tawil, the director-general of Nyala hospital, told Radio Dabanga the strike was ended after the doctors had been convinced of the measures taken by the South Darfur State government. “On Wednesday, the work at the hospital returned to normal. Yet, in case of new attacks on medical staff members, the doctors will submit their resignation, they decided.” In response to the strike, the Security Committee of Nyala, capital of South Darfur, issued a decision on Tuesday prohibiting all military and paramilitary troops from entering civilian hospitals in the city, “for all purposes, including treatment”, as well as denying military vehicles access to the hospitals’ grounds. A patrol vehicle run by Sudanese army and military police troops has been stationed in front of the hospital.
