SRF forms committee with Umma, DUP
The Sudan Revolutionary Front has formed a committee with the Umma Party and Democratic Unionist Party to work together to ‘bring down the regime in Khartoum.’
The three parties agreed after leading figures from each attended a meeting.
On Tuesday a statement was issued saying the three parties agree on the need to remove the ruling National Congress Party and create a roadmap to unite opposition political forces and establish equal citizenship and real democracy.
‘Abandon armed opposition’
US special envoy for Darfur Dan Smith advised rebel groups fighting the government on multiple fronts to abandon their goals to overthrow the regime, warning it could provoke the feelings of Arabs and Muslims.
Smith said ‘we will not support the overthrow of the government by force,’ adding that the US demands the rebels particularly in Darfur work with the government on the process began by the Doha peace agreement signed last year.
