The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) in South Kordofan accused government militia of killing 50 civilians in Al Airep on Friday when a village was burned down.Qamar Dahlman, the spokesperson of the SPLM told Radio Dabanga that government militia burned down the village and killed 50 civilians, mostly women and children. It also looted 180 cattle, which were later sold in the town market.
“The citizens were told by the authorities to leave the village, but they did not cooperate,” Dahlman said. He condemned what happened, describing it as a serious accident.
The fight between the government forces and the SPLA in South Kordofan has intensified in the days after South Sudan won independence from the north in July, earlier this year.
