South Sudan withdraws from Heglig
The South Sudanese army announced its withdrawal from Heglig on instruction by president Kiir to allow for a political solution to solve territory disputes with Sudan. Philip Aguer, South Sudan’s military spokesman told Radio Dabanga that the army pulled out at which point Sudanese forces entered the area. He said Sudanese troops did not take over the area as South Sudan’s army had already left Heglig. He said despite the withdrawal of the SPLA, Heglig (known as Panthou) remains in South Sudan’s territory, and this will be solved by the necessary political or military means.
