South Kordofan: market bombed; 30 villages now destroyed

Six people were killed and others injured on Monday in a bombardment on Trawa village in South Kordofan. In the period from November to February more than 30 villages were destroyed by government and militia forces. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, multiple sources reported that on Monday afternoon a Sudanese Air Force fighter jet dropped a bomb on the market of Trawa village, Rashad locality in South Kordofan. Six people were killed and many others injured, some of them seriously. “Monday is a market day in Trawa,” the sources explained. “Usually the market is crowded with customers. So this was a clear attempt to inflect maximum damage to civilians.” The names of four of the victims are: Musa Osman (50) and El Haj Mohamed (18), displaced, originally from El Fayed Umma Abdel Aal village, Mohamed Yangi and Abdallah Fadul, displaced, originally from El Toma village. 30 villages destroyed One of the sources reported that from November to February more than 30 villages were destroyed in the areas between Jebel Abu Elhassan and Abu Karshola. He mentioned villages in the areas of Shamshaka, Fursha, and Aradeiba. The villagers were forcibly evacuated by government and militias forces. Their farmlands and gardens were set on fire. The source said that activists among the displaced estimated the number of villagers fleeing those areas at about 70,000. They sought refuge in the mountains and valleys, and “are now living in desperate humanitarian conditions”.
