South Darfuri villagers shot to prevent farming
Two displaced farmers were injured in an attack by militiamen on Eidan village, west of Gireida, South Darfur, on Friday.
“When we returned from our farms on Friday evening, about ten militiamen on horses and camels opened fire,” a villager reported to Radio Dabanga.
“Ali Mohamed Ahmed and Adam Mohamed Ahmed were injured, and had to be taken to Gireida Hospital for treatment.”
He explained that most of the farmers temporarily returned to the village to cultivate their lands. “The attack was meant to prevent us from continuing to till our farms.”
Villagers and members of the paramilitary Popular Defence Forces formed a search party on Saturday morning and tracked down the perpetrators. They captured two of them, and handed them to the police in Gireida.
