South Darfur teachers demand monthly salary payment
Basic school teachers in South Darfur complain about the delay of their monthly salaries. The South Darfur State parliament has demanded the withdrawal of troops from the residential areas of state capital Nyala. Speaking to Radio Dabanga on Friday, a basic school teacher from Kubum locality in South Darfur reported that since April last year the teachers are receiving their salary once every two months. “We cannot cover the needs of our family’s anymore since last year, and many of us are continuously borrowing money from relatives and friends.” He appealed to the South Darfur State authorities to pay their salaries every month. The teacher also reported that the Legislative Council of South Darfur State has demanded the removal of all paramilitary forces troops from Nyala’s neighbourhoods. “The security arrangements agreed upon should be enforced. Only regular troops are to be allowed to carry arms.” He called upon the parliament to also prohibit the wearing of masks by gunmen and robbers. In addition, the teacher requested from the Legislative Council to solve the electricity outages in the capital and provide a healthy environment for patients of the Nyala Teaching Hospital, by rehabilitating it.
