South Darfur Police Lieutenant dies in pursuit of robbers

A police lieutenant and a militiaman died on Monday following an armed robbery in Bielel locality, South Darfur. In a press statement, state police director, Maj. Gen. Ahmed Osman Mohamed Khair, told reporters that three militiamen attempted to stop the vehicle of the Executive Director of Bielel locality. “The militiamen ordered the driver to stop, opened fire on one of the police guards, and tried to seize his gun, but the vehicle driver moved quickly. “A police force led by Lt. Abakar Malafat and a local rescue team hunted-down the perpetrators and clashed with them, which led to the death of Lt. Malafat as well as one of the perpetrators.
