South Darfur man ‘tortured to death’ in detention

Government forces reportedly beat and tortured a citizen to death after arresting him on Monday night on his way to his home district of Teksas in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur. A relative of the deceased named Yasin Abdallah Ali Hussein, told Radio Dabanga that security forces contacted the family on the same night of the arrest to tell them that Hussein was detained and taken to a police station.After a while the security called again to tell them Hussein was taken to the hospital, telling his family that as a result of the curfew, they would not be able to immediately go see him. The family, however, went to the hospital at 4:30am and found Hussein dead in the morgue covered marks of severe beating and torture.Kidnappers arrestedSecurity forces arrested three men suspected of abducting a senior market trader in early September in Nyala.A source revealed to Radio Dabanga that three of the five kidnappers of market trader Mudasir Abakar Mohamed Khartoum, were arrested after a quarrel developed between them about the division of SDG50,000 ($11,240), the ransom they had received from the trader’s relatives. Khartoum was found blindfolded, locked up in a dark room of a house in the district of el Mazad in the north of Nyala. He was in a poor health condition, and transferred to Nyala hospital for treatment.The kidnappers arrested are Fawzi, Ali Kondi and Zafouk el Dunya while the other two managed to flee.
