South Darfur man abducted from Nyala home
A man was reportedly abducted from in front of his home in Nyala, capital of South Darfur, by four armed men in a Land Cruiser on Saturday afternoon. A relative told Radio Dabanga that the four men grabbed Al Hussein Mohamed Al Mahdi, nicknamed Al Andrin, at about 3pm from his home in Nyala’s Hai Al Tadamun district and took him to “an unknown destination”. The source said that they have contacted the local and state authorities, appealing to them to find Al Mahdi, arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice.Nyala has been witnessing high levels of insecurity over the past months. In early July, a shooting incident between Sudan’s National Security, contingents of the Central Reserve Forces, known as ‘Abu Tira’, and pro-government militias. Two employees of the NGO World Vision were killed.In a recent report, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that “government security forces informed humanitarian agencies of the presence of criminal groups” in the town. Business people and traders in Nyala are also often targeted, which is prompting some to demand armed bodyguards or to relocate their businesses to Khartoum.
