South Darfur Health Ministry calls for more medics
The Ministry of Health in South Darfur reports an acute shortage of medical doctors in the state.
Except for 33 specialists working in the state capital of Nyala, there is not a single specialist present in hospitals in the localities, a medical source reported to Radio Dabanga. There are 22 general practitioners operating in South Darfur.
During a visit of the federal Minister of Health, Bahar Idris Abu Garda, to Nyala on Thursday, the South Darfur Health Ministry demanded the provision of more medical staff and work aids to be able to face emergencies.
According to the Ministry, South Darfur is in need of 69 specialists and 138 general practitioners.
