SLM rebels ‘kill soldiers’ in Kutum, North Darfur

Rebels announced the defeat of government troops north of Kutum in North Darfur on Thursday.

Combatants of the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Minni Minawi (SLM-MM) attacked a convoy of the Sudanese army at Wadi Magreb on Wednesday. The convoy was 110 vehicles large, spokesman for the rebels, Ahmed Hussein Mustafa, told Radio Dabanga.

The fighting ended on Thursday, with the killing of 20 government troops and allied militiamen, Mustafa claimed. “Dozens were wounded. We seized ten vehicles and destroyed five others.”

The spokesman said that the retreating government troops were chased to the outskirts of Kutum.
