SLM-AW not part of Sudan road map
Abdelwahid Mohammed El Nur, head of the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM-AW) and co-president of the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF), has announced that his Movement will not be part of the ‘roadmap’ the SRF concluded in Paris on Monday.
Abdelwahid El Nur, head of the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM-AW) and co-president of the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF), has announced that his Movement will not be part of the ‘road map’ the SRF concluded in Paris on Monday.
He told Radio Dabanga on Tuesday that while their Movement respects the option chosen by their companions in the SRF, they will not part of this road map, saying that “the road map contradicts the SRF’s 2012 charters”.
The rebel leader stressed that the Movement is committed to its stated position that they will not negotiate with the Khartoum regime “until they put a stop to the genocide and rape, and disarm the militias.”
Other conditions include the return of the displaced and refugees to their villages after achieving security, individual, and civil freedoms for the Sudanese people, in accordance with international conventions, and a comprehensive peaceful solution that leads to change.
However, El Nur predicts that the solution proposed in the roadmap will perpetuate the crisis: “Change will only be achieved by changing the NCP regime and by the building of a state on principles of equal citizenship that will accommodate everyone. This can only be achieved by a military, civil, and popular uprising.
