SLM-MM claims LRA and Kony are in South Darfur
The Sudan Liberation Movement led by Minni Minawi (SLM-MM) has accused Sudanese officials of protecting Joseph Kony and the Lord’s resistance Army, which it says is currently in Darfur. In a statement, the SLM-MM said sources told the movement that the LRA and Kony are moving around the Mukjar area in South Darfur under the full supervision of the ruling National Congress Party. The statement said the LRA is being looked after by three security service officers including senior rank officials, who are based in Khartoum, Nyala and near Mukjar. It said the LRA is working alongside government militias as mercenaries carrying out special operations. The official spokesman of the authorities in South Darfur told Radio Dabanga these accusations are untrue. He said the government has no connection to the LRA and they are not in South Darfur, stressing that Sudanese forces guard Sudanese territory and deal with rebels themselves.
