SLM-MM claims attack on Gireida, South Darfur

The Sudan Liberation Movement, led by Minni Minawi (SLM-MM), under the banner of the Sudan Revolutionary Front, announced that its forces entered Gireida, South Darfur, on Tuesday. It attacked the police station, militia sites, the Security offices, and the Central Reserve Forces (Abu Tira). Adam Salih Abakar, the military spokesman for the SLM-MM, reported in a statement that the rebel forces “eliminated” the Abu Tira headquarters, the central police station and the security forces compound. “No government troops emerged unscathed,” the statement claimed. According to Abakar, complaints from citizens and displaced living in and around Gireida about ongoing assaults by government forces, prompted the SLM-MM to attack those forces and destroy them.
