SLM-MM claim control of army base in South Darfur
The Sudan Liberation Movement led by Minni Minawi (SLM-MM) said it took control of an army base at Um Dafouk in South Darfur on Tuesday. SLM-MM spokesman Abdullah Al Mersal told Radio Dabanga the movement captured many Sudanese soldiers along with 50 vehicles, causing the rest of the government forces to flee. He said this operation was the beginning of the process to bring down the Sudanese regime by destroying all army bases in all states of Kordofan and Darfur. The spokesman said forces are now deployed across the two states and warned civilians to stay away from military bases which are now targets. Radio Dabanga could not reach a Sudanese army spokesman for comment.
