SLM-Field Leadership warns UNAMID aircraft from entering its areas
The Sudan Liberation Movement faction known as “Field Leadership” warned UN peacekeepers against flying aircraft over their territories. The rebel faction announced that the UN African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) should not fly aircraft over sites under their control without prior permission, whether in North or South Darfur. The Omda Al Tahir Adam, secretary-general of the movement, said in an interview with Radio Dabanga on Monday that some areas claimed by the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM) are not under LJM’s control but in fact are subject to SLM-Field Leadership. He mentioned especially Um Marahik, Kurbia, Um Haraz, Oriri, and Kharban, villages in the northwestern part of North Darfur State roughly between El Fasher and the border town of Kornoi. UNAMID aircraft flying over the area without prior authorization are at risk, he said.
