Shops in Kutum market robbed, night patrol officers arrested
Large quantities of consumer goods and food items were stolen from shops at the market in Kutum, North Darfur, during a series of break-ins. Unidentified perpetrators broke into around 10 shops on Monday night in the market of Kutum, a source told Radio Dabanga.It was reported that about 280 sacks of sugar, 180 tins of oil and 74 sacks of onions were stolen. The town’s Chamber of Commerce filed a complaint with the area’s military garrison commander, who blamed the incident on the night patrol members on duty that night and arrested all of them.The source claimed that the Chamber of Commerce used to collect a monthly fee of 10 Sudanese pounds from each trader in the market as a contribution to the army in exchange for protection.Radio Dabanga file photo
