Sheikh abducted, people robbed, vehicles ambushed in Darfur
Elements of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces abducted a village sheikh and a policeman in Nierteti locality, Central Darfur, on Tuesday. A school student and a citizen were robbed in the locality on Sunday. On Sunday and Monday, a man was killed, and three people were injured in ambushes in North Darfur. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, a villager from Girnei, 8km north of Nierteti town, reported that “Rapid Support militiamen on Tuesday kidnapped the sheikh of Girnei, El Nur Hussein Osman, and a policeman, in front of the village’s police post. They were taken to an unknown destination.” Robbery“A group of government-backed gunmen on Sunday robbed Khalid Ibrahim, secondary school student, and Mohamed Ismail Mohamed at gunpoint, in Wadi Kirji, when they were returning from the Nierteti market. The gunmen fired into the air before robbing Ibrahim of SDG700 ($122), and Mohamed of SDG1,500 ($262)“, a witness from Nierteti told Radio Dabanga. “These Janjaweed are continuously terrorising citizens in Wadi Kirji,” the source explained. AmbushesOne man died and another was injured on Sunday when a Land Cruiser overturned in an attempt to escape an ambush in the area of Meleisa, Saraf Umra locality in North Darfur.One of the passengers told Radio Dabanga that two gunmen riding a motorcycle intended to intercept a commercial Land Cruiser en route from Meleisa to Korgul market. “The driver tried to avoid the gunmen which resulted in the vehicle’s overturn.
