Several dead, three wounded, in Jonglei, South Sudan
At least three people were wounded in fighting at a military barrack in Akobo in South Sudan’s Jonglei State this morning. The clash broke out within the ranks of the army on the third day of the national crisis that began with heavy fighting in Juba. According to a government source in Juba town, gunshots were heard from about 9am from the military barracks on the outskirts. “I can see three wounded men and they are being taken to the hospital,” said the official. He was not aware of the number of soldiers who had died in the fighting, and he declined to speculate on the reasons for the clash: “We don’t know actually what the fighting was about.” None of the fighting actually reached into the town, according to the local source.
