Seven displaced assaulted, robbed near Mukjar, Central Darfur

Seven residents of Mukjar camp for the displaced in Central Darfur, reportedly suffered various injuries and robbed of their money and property on Saturday. One of the victims told Radio Dabanga that 12 militiamen on camels attacked the seven displaced 500m from an army garrison, east of Mukjar city. “The citizens were on their way to the camp, returning from their farmlands.” The source said that the gunmen beat them heavily with rifle butts and whips before pillaging all their belongings. Two secondary school pupils and a woman among the victims were seriously injured. The victims appealed to the troops in the army garrison for help but they allegedly replied that “the armed forces are not authorised to protect civilians or prosecute perpetrators”. One of the victims told Radio Dabanga that 12 militiamen on camels attacked the seven displaced 500m from an army garrison, east of Mukjar city.

The victims appealed to the troops in the army garrison for help but they allegedly replied that “the armed forces are not authorised to protect civilians or prosecute perpetrators”.
