Sennar University Faculty cancels Darfuri students’ registration
The Faculty of Natural Resources of the University of Sennar issued a decision on Sunday repealing the registration of Darfuri students and suspending their student identity cards. Saddam Ibrahim, the head of Darfur Students Association at the University of Sennar told Radio Dabanga that the Faculty of Natural Resources has blocked the Darfur student cards after they completed their registration for the new academic year. Security forces denied the students access to the campus. The reason for the cancellation of the 49 registered Darfuri students is that they did not pay registration and tuition fees, though according to the Doha agreement for Peace in Darfur, Darfuri students should be exempt from paying fees for education. Ibrahim added that the Darfur Students Association of the Faculty yesterday began a sit-in, demanding the reversal of the decision. They have given the faculty administration 72 hours to do so or they will return to their families in Darfur.
