Security raids Sudanese Congress Party HQ in West Kordofan
Security forces raided the headquarters of the Sudanese Congress Party (SCP) in En Nahud, West Kordofan, for the second time in less than a week. A number of SCP affiliates were interrogated, Bakri Yousef, the spokesman for the Party reported to Radio Dabanga from En Nahud. “Four of them were kept in detention: Abdel Halim Adam Mohamed Ibrahim, SCP’s Secretary-General in El Nahud, Abdel Rahim Mohamed Abdel Rahim, Abdel Aziz Ahmad Abdel Aziz, and Khalid Abdel Abdel Majid.” On 8 June, SCP president Ibrahim El Sheikh was detained by the security service in En Nahud. He was charged with undermining the Constitution, after he had publicly denounced the widespread attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces on civilians in Darfur and Kordofan. A court hearing was scheduled in En Nahud on 12 June, during which large crowds gathered in front of the court in protest against the trial. El Sadig El Mahdi, the head of the National Umma Party, had been detained in Khartoum on 17 May for the same reason. He was released on 15 June.
