Second fire within one month in South Darfur camp
A massive fire reportedly broke out in the Khor Abeche camp for the displaced in South Darfur on Thursday, injuring nine people. One of the camp residents told Radio Dabanga that a fire broke out at about 4pm on Thursday afternoon in the Khor Abeche camp, located north-west of Unamid headquarters in South Darfur. Nine people were injured, among them women and children, and 143 houses completely burned down, along with a number of shops. The camp resident noted that the affected families are staying in the open without shelter or food. They appeal to the local authorities, the South Darfur state, and humanitarian organisations to provide support to them. Early October, a huge fire in the same camp completely burned down 350 houses, 80 shops, a pharmacy and partially a communications tower belonging to Unamid.
