‘Scabies in West Darfur came from Jebel ‘Amer’: Minister
Authorities of West Darfur state have announced that the current epidemic of scabies arrived from the Jebel ‘Amer region in North Darfur. As reported by Radio Dabanga on Thursday, more than 3,000 people in Kereinik locality are infected, according to initial tests. The Minister of Education and the Acting Governor, Adam Bashir Yahiya, confirmed the concentration of the scabies epidemic is found in the areas of Kereinik, Umm Tajok, and Umm Dukhun, Central Darfur.He warned that if the spreading of this very contagious disease cannot be halted, it may reach the neighbouring Darfur states too. Yahiya added that a large number of people in the Kereinik region have now been vaccinated, in order to prevent the spreading of the disease, and that a committee has been formed to investigate the origins of the disease.
