Robberies in North, Central Darfur

Militiamen robbed residents of three camps for the displaced in Tawila locality, North Darfur, on Monday morning. On the same day, armed robbers shot a school teacher, and on Sunday, three shops of the Northern Nierteti camp in Central Darfur were plundered. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, a resident of Rwanda camp said that “government-backed militiamen on camels and horses stormed the camp at about 1 am on Monday”. “They robbed a number of displaced of their property, and did the same in the adjacent Tibra and Dali camps. They also seized all the goods loaded on the vehicle of trader Adam Idris Ishag,” the source said. Motorcycle In Kutum locality, North Darfur, five gunmen intercepted secondary school teacher Siddig Ahmed Ahmedou, when he was on his way from Kutum town to his village in the area of Kenin. “They demanded his motorcycle. When he refused to hand it over, they shot him in his feet,” an eyewitness told Radio Dabanga. “They then beat him with batons before robbing him of his motorcycle, SDG1,000 ($173), and the new clothes he bought for his children at Kutum market.” Ahmedou had to be transferred to Kutum hospital for treatment.
