Authorities suspended road travel between the cities of Nyala and El Fasher for more than three days last week. This led to complaints from a number of students studying at Nyala University.
The students said that the suspension of commercial travel has prevented them from reaching the city of Nyala and catching up with the exams which are due soon, stating that the matter needs to be solved before the date of the examinations. The students called on the authorities to move to escort vehicles so that they would be able to catch up at the university. For the same reason a number of traders complained that their financial interest between the two cities has stopped and trade between El Fasher and Nyala has been cut off because of the incidents witnessed in Shangil Tobaya, Dar As Salaam and Tukumarre. The El Fasher-Nyala bus station has witnessed congestion of a large number of commercial buses and lorries carrying goods during the last week. From its part, the government of South Darfur announced that it increased security on all the main roads and major entrances and exits of the city, especially on the southern border of the state.
