Speaking to Radio Dabanga, a camp resident said that the woman who sold milk fell when her donkey stumbled. She broke her neck and died.

As she belonged to a “family of militiamen” and the accident occurred near the Nierteti northern camp, gunmen riding motorcycles and horses reacted by fiercely attacking the camp, an eyewitness recounted.

The attackers “completely pillaged the camp market, beat its residents and fired randomly at the camp.” The shooting reportedly led to the death of Ali Yahya Ahmed (28) and Abbas Ishaq Mohamed (31) and the injury of three others.

The camp resident added that the number of casualties may be higher because an investigation by the camp authorities is still ongoing.

The resident accused the security forces of covering-up the attack and idly standing-by while the militiamen were firing shots and looting the market.

“The attackers were able to leave the market, carrying the looted goods out of the camp and passing the gates of the army without being stopped,” the source stated.
