Resigned West Darfur Health Minister calls accusations ‘political’
The Minister of Health for West Darfur State, Ishaq Ahmed Yaqoub, has resigned from his post on the State Legislative Council following the Council’s “withdrawal of trust”. Yaqoub has been accused of “providing misleading statements” to the council regarding El Geneina hospital. He has also been charged with “collecting more than SDG729 million ($165 million) without documenting it in the financial record”. In an interview with Radio Dabanga, Yaqoub, who is a member of the former rebel faction Liberation and Justice Movement, branded the withdrawal of trust as “a political move that’s unrelated to any money”.He explained that a law has been proposed for 2013 and presented by the ministry which has been used for collecting the money through Government Form 15. He also pointed out remarks in the Auditor General’s report that describe his ministry as one of the best in dealing with public money, including the El Geneina hospital accounts. File photo
