Residents expel seismic survey team in East Darfur
Residents of the area of Sharif, Adila locality in East Darfur on Monday expelled employees of the Star Oil Company, preventing them from carrying out an initial seismic survey in the area of Tebeidi, south of Sharif. Listeners from Sharif told Radio Dabanga that Star Oil has not paid its financial dues of about SDG340,000 ($59,300) to the residents, as compensation for the farms and pastures which will be lost because of the survey. Instead, the company offered to pay SDG140,000 ($24,400). The residents, however, rejected the offer and expelled the company’s survey staff. The commissioner of Adila locality intervened and tried, to no avail, to persuade the residents to agree. File graphic: Seismic survey exploration for oil and gas
