Residents demand reopening of school

Residents of Khor Ramla village in Niriti County, West Darfur have told Radio Dabanga that the local education authorities are refusing to open the only school in the region. Sources told Radio Dabanga the school has been closed since 2009.                   Students spend more than 6 hours a day walking to and from a school in Niriti city, and have been doing so for the past two years. Authorities closed the school due to disagreements between them and school staff in 2009. The source said students often missed classes as they were late for morning sessions, leaving Khor Ramla at seven in the morning arriving at school at 10am. Many were at risk as they would arrive home at sunset. The source from Niriti called on the authorities to open the school immediately. He said the buildings also remain in a good condition.
