Relief agencies meet Sudan refugees in Chad camp
Humanitarian agencies met on Tuesday with Sudanese refugees of camp Kounongou to discuss about topics concerning their future after some agencies left the site. Other matters touched upon included the transfer of the hospital to outside the camp and the collection of firewood. One of the Kounongou sheikhs told Radio Dabanga that UNHCR, SINNAR and SAKADIF were the organizations meeting with other sheikhs, omdas and women. He said the refugees stressed the current situation is not “conductive for humanitarian organizations to hand over responsibilities to them”, pointing out that peace has not yet been achieved in Sudan. In addition, the refugees announced their refusal to transfer the hospital outside the camp as this would be an extra burden to them. Concerning firewood, the sheikh said the refugees are asking organizations to come up with “new alternatives” for them.
