Regional authority ‘manipulates’: North Darfur camp leaders
The leaders of the North Darfur camps for the displaced people have expressed harsh criticism against the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) for “not carrying out any of the commitments they made for the displaced”, during a meeting with the head of the DRA in El Fasher on Wednesday. A number of leaders of Abu Shouk, Kassab, Fatta Barno, El Salam and Tawila camps told Radio Dabanga that the DRA has not carried out any of the pledges and commitments made for the displaced persons in regard of services, development, compensations, security and voluntary return. The head of the regional authority, Dr Tijani Sese, has “deceived and manipulated them”. The leaders, who have participated in the Doha Forum, noted that the head and his fellow ministers “left them behind, closed their doors, and expelled them after seizing power and governance”. Voluntary return In the same context, displaced people in North Darfur demanded Sese to provide them with security, protection, health and education services, according to Sudan’s official news agency (SUNA) on Thursday. They argued that in order to voluntary return to their homes, an attractive environment is needed, following the implementation of the Doha document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) On his part, the head of the DRA confirmed he is committed to implement the delegation’s demands related to maintaining security in the camps, and providing an attractive and safe environment for voluntary return. Sese said he is also committed to the micro financing of projects for youth, women and collective marriages to combat negative habits.
