Rebels: ‘shelling of military sites will continue’
SRF announced it will continue targeting the airports in El-Fasher and other airports in Darfur, Radio Dabanga was informed on Sunday November 18. The announcement followed the rebels’ attempted shelling of El-Fasher airport on Friday. The shelling on Friday occurred near the airport, without causing any casualties but sparking fear and panic among residents. Adam Saleh, military spokesman of Sudan’s Liberation Movement –Minni Minawi (SLM-MM), told Radio Dabanga that the SRF troops targeted El-Fasher’s airport because the regime reportedly uses it to arrange their aviation. The spokesman added that the shelling of El-Fasher was not intended to injure citizens; it was intended to hit the airport and other sites of the National Congress Party. Witnesses and multiple sources from El-Fasher confirmed to Radio Dabanga hearing explosions and shells being dropped on Friday night, the third attack without any casualties they added. Saleh told Radio Dabanga that “SRF will continue its shelling of military targets in Nyala , El-Geneina and El-Obeid, all the way to Khartoum”. He urges citizens to avoid military and security areas in the city, Adam Saleh added to Radio Dabanga from the field. ‘No explosions in El-Fasher’ On the other hand, the Sudanese army stated that only two shells were launched and landed outside of El-Fasher. Colonel Sawarmi Khaled Saad, spokesman of the Sudanese army, said that there had not been any explosions in the city of El-Fasher on Friday. The military spokesman told SUNA (Sudan News Agency) that the news about explosions in El-Fasher is completely false, explaining that an army patrol operating outside of the city clashed with rebels, who were aiming to bomb the city, at approximately 25 kilometers from El-Fasher. Al-Shorooq TV, considered to be pro-government, quoted a military source from the Sudanese army who claimed that two shells were launched from the area of Shagra, around 30 kilometers west of El-Fasher. He added that the two rockets landed outside of the capital without causing any casualties.
