Rebels, Governor differ on outcome of South Darfur garrison attack
The Liberation Movement for Justice, led by Ali Karbino (LMJ-Karbino) claims it has captured two Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) troops. The movement also apologised to the residents of Katila locality in South Darfur for any damage that occurred during the attack launched on an army garrison in the locality on Tuesday. Speaking to Radio Dabanga on Wednesday, Mubarak Bakhit, the organisation and management secretary of the LMJ, said that the joint forces of LMJ-Karbino and the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Abdel Wahid El Nur (SLM-AW) that targeted the military area of Katila, captured two Nyala-resident soldiers, Ali Adigeil Hassan Ibrahim and Bahreldin Mohamed Rahma Ibrahim. The LMJ secretary also conveyed his movement’s apologies to the citizens in the area for any collateral damage to their property. “The LMJ assumes full responsibility.” Bakhit stated that the joint rebel forces are still in control of the area. The Governor of South Darfur, Adam Mahmoud Jarelnabi, said that 20 people, including 12 civilians, were killed in the attack on Katila. In a statement broadcast by the pro-government Alshorooq TV channel on the attack, he confirmed that it was carried out by the Sudan Liberation Movement, led by Minni Minawi (SLM-MM), with 31 vehicles targeting government institutions. The Governor contradicted the rebels’ claims, saying that “the authorities are now in full control of Katila”.
