Rebel groups say 7 ‘Abu Tira’ killed in N. Darfur battle
Two rebel groups who ambushed together an “Abu Tira” (Central Reserve Forces) convoy north of El Fasher in North Darfur claim having killed seven troops and injuring “several others”. The ambush was confirmed by a North Darfur armed forces official. The groups Sudan Liberation Movement for Justice (SLMJ of Karbino) and Sudan Liberation Movement- Unity (SLM-Unity of Abdullah Yahiya) claimed the attack, which took place at 2:00pm on Sunday. Mubarak Bakhit Ibrahim, field commander of Karbino told Radio Dabanga the Abu Tira were riding 12 Land Cruisers and were ambushed in the area of Jilleidad, between El Fasher and Donki Shatta. He added one vehicle loaded with Dushkas belonging to the government troops was seized and that the remaining soldiers fled in the direction of El Fasher. Ahmed Adam Abdel Kader, coordinator of the Sudanese Popular Defense Forces (PDF) of North Darfur, confirmed the ambush by rebel movements on Sunday. Kader said two of his soldiers were killed and a third was wounded at kilometer 14 of the road connecting Kutum and El Fasher, west of North Darfur’s capital.
