Ransom paid, abducted farmers released in Central Darfur
On Thursday, militiamen released seven displaced farmers abducted two weeks ago in Nierteti locality, Central Darfur, after their families had paid a ransom of SDG 75,000 ($13,000). The victims were handed over to the locality’s commissioner, who took them to the police for investigation and documentation. “As they were a dire health condition, they were then transferred to Nierteti hospital in” a displaced leader told Radio Dabanga from Nierteti. “The kidnappers had severely mistreated them.” The gunmen had ambushed a group of farmers near Kombo Ghabat on 12 November. They killed two of them, raped a woman, and left with seven people to an unknown location. The source criticised the way the abductees were treated and handed over. He also demanded payment of “blood money” for the two murdered farmers, Ismail Haroun (38), and Yahya Mahmoud Mustafa (35), “in the same manner the ransom was forced upon the relatives of the kidnapped victims”. The released are Mohamed Ali Bakhit (62), Abakar Abdallah Haroun (48), Eisa Ibrahim Ishag (52), Abdelaziz Yaqoub Bahreldin (28), Adam Mohamed Adam (24), Sadig Musa Abdelrahman (26), and Ahmed Eisa Sharafeldin (16).
