Rains have destroyed hundreds of homes in South Darfur
Torrential rains in El Daein last Wednesday disrupted studies at the basic and secondary schools and caused extensive damage to property of citizens. Preliminary estimates are that about two thousand houses have been damaged due to the heavy rains and flooding. The city market was flooded and part of the El Daein Teaching Hospital. There was also flooding in the central valley separating the south of the city from north, causing damage in several neighborhoods. Meanwhile, rain destroyed more than 80 houses in Yasin Locality, South Darfur, and damaged parts of a displacement camp in Yasin Locality. There was also damages reported in Gereida Locality. A number of houses were also washed away in Al Salaam camp south of Nyala.
