Protests in Kabkabiya

Residents of some cities in North Darfur’s Kabkabiya region declared a strike on Tuesday on buying meat from the city’s butchers owing to high prices of commodities.

The strike, accompanied by a demonstration, resulted in large numbers of riot police on the streets of the city. The riot police were deployed on Monday when news about the protests by students and activists leaked out.

A resident of Kabkabiya told Radio Dabanga that there had been a significant drop in the price of meat since the declaration of the strike.
