Protests for detainees’ release across Sudan

Hundreds of supporters of the Umma party held a demonstration in Dongola, capital of Sudan’s Northern State on Monday, to demand the release of party leader El Sadig El Mahdi, as well as all detainees in Sudan. The march moved from the city’s market to the office of State Governor, Fathi Mohamed Khalil. Sources told Radio Dabanga that while the police prevented the demonstrators from entering the building of the Governor’s office en masse, they did allow five representatives through, who handed the Governor a memorandum. Khartoum At the same time in Khartoum 2, security services prevented a similar demonstration, demanding the release of all detainees. Four of the organisers were detained, including Salah, the father of one of the detainees.
