Property of Sudanese gold prospectors seized in Chad
Sudanese gold prospectors, returning from Niger, accused the Chadian authorities of confiscating their belongings, vehicles, and gold. On Monday, hundreds of Sudanese gold seekers, who were recently banned from Niger, arrived in Darfur. The Sudanese government had hired lorries to transport a number of them. “The Chadian authorities forced each of us to sign a statement saying that nothing had been confiscated. After we had signed, they seized our mining tools, satellite telephones, vehicles, and our gold”, a Darfuri prospector told Radio Dabanga. The number of Sudanese, who went to Niger to seek for gold, has been estimated at about 2,700.
