Pro-government gunmen ambush women in Mershing

A group of displaced women from Mershing camp in South Darfur were allegedly ambushed by pro-government gunmen, on Monday November 5, leaving two of the women seriously injured, witnesses told Radio Dabanga. One of the witnesses added that the gunmen attacked a group of six women while they were harvesting grain in the area of Kringa, west of Mershing locality. The gunmen allegedly attacked the women with the purpose of raping them. The women were beaten with rifle butts and whips when they tried to resist, the witness stated. According to local sources, the women were saved by passers-by, adding that the attack injured all six of the women. Two of them were severely injured and taken to a hospital in Mershing for treatment. The source added that residents registered several complaints with the authorities and the local police regarding the repetitive attacks by gunmen, but no action has been taken yet, the witness added to Radio Dabanga.
